Next up is our first ever vaccine titer clinic on Monday, April 10 from 11 - 5 pm. Dr. Katz and the staff from Holistic Veterinary Services will be here to draw the titers. A titer is a simple blood draw that tests your pet's blood for protective levels of antibodies that help them fight specific diseases. Most pets HAVE well above protective levels of antibodies after being given their initial vaccine protocol as a puppy or  kitten. Traditional veterinary medicine practitioners may send you a reminder that your pet is due for his "annual" vaccinations. The AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) actually has changed their official recommendation to a 3 year protocol for core vaccinations. Some vets continue to recommend annuals despite the AVMA's official stance. Research shows that your pet most likely doesn't need any revaccination at all if he's had the initial series. Overvaccination affects your pet's immune response and has been identified in studies as a culprit in immune mediated conditions such as cancer and allergies.  A titer test will show if your pet has protective levels of antibodies present making further vaccination unnecessary.  Titer tests available at our clinic are core vaccine for dogs (distemper/parvo/adenovirus), core vaccine for cats (distemper/herpes/calici), or a rabies titer screen.  Call us for more infomation 815 933-5364, for pricing, or to set up an appointment.
